Harley-Davidson Motorbikes Kilimanjaro Safari Rally

14 - 27 February 2011. Promoted as the most spectacular motorbike rally to be held in Africa, Tanzania's government, in collaboration with Harley-Davidson, are launching a 3,120km safari rally. The bulk of the route (2,350km) takes place in Tanzania, while neighbouring Kenya is hosting a 770km stretch of the rally. Described as an 'expedition adventure' as opposed to a competition, the Tanzanian government realises the potential for boosting the tourism sector and are sponsoring the event accordingly. Harley-Davidson have organised rallies around the world for the last six years, and this event, comprising 43 motorbikes and 70 foreign participants, is certain to attract international attention. The rally's route passes through Chalinze, Lushoto, Marangu, Arusha, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. It then crosses the border into Kenya through Namanga and re-enters Tanzania through Horohoro to Tanga and Chalinze before crossing by ferry to Zanzibar and back to Dar es Salaam. more

2-11 March 2011. This photographic exhibition entitled Kusi na Kaskazi, which means South and North, by the Swiss photographer Beat Presser has been travelling along the Tanzanian coast in 2010 and now arrives to Arusha. On display are a series of photographs dedicated to the cultural area between the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea, which has fascinated generations and generations over the centuries. Furthermore, it investigates the origins of sailing ships in the Indian Ocean as well as the history of the traditional Tanzanian dhows, their construction and daily use. The images are accompanied by some text material by Prof. Abdul Sheriff , a Tanzanian scientist as well as founder of the Zanzibar Indian Ocean Research Institute. more

14-16 March 2011. On occasion of the month yearly dedicated to Francophonie, Alliance proposes three days of projections entirely dedicated to French movies. Projections start at 19.00 and have English subtitles. The programme foresees on 14 March the comedy movie Bienvenue chez le Ch’tis by Dany Boon: Philippe Abrahams, manager of a small postal office in a small town in the South of France, has a depressed wife, Julie. Philippe tries desperately to get a job at an office on the Mediterranean seaside to make his wife happy again. On 15 March the dramatic movie Deux Jours à Tuer by Jean Becker: Antoine Méllot is in his 40s and has a very happy and satisfying life, when he suddenly decides to ruin everything in one weekend. On 16 March Victoire Terminus by F. de la Tullaye and R. Barret: this French-Congolese documentary tells of a group of young, outstanding female boxers who train in now run down stadium, where in 1974 took place the legendary battle match between Mohammed Ali and George Foreman. more

East African Financial Institutions’ Exhibition

24-27 March 2011. This open air fair is the first East African Financial Institutions’ Exhibition, the so called Pamoja Fair, is organized by the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) and Vision SACCOS entrepreneurs. The Pamoja Fair underlines the role of financial institutions in trade and tries to bridge the gap existing in countries of the East African Community (EAC) – Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania –between financial institutions and local business communities. On this occasion all the key industry players of the East African countries will present their products and meet the local business community. Participants will range from traders and consumers, importers and exporters, wholesalers and retailers, agents, business executives as well as general public. The gross domestic product of the five EAC is estimated at US 80 billion and the population is over 140 million inhabitants. more

8 August 2010. The inaugural Safari International Marathon takes place in Arusha on 8 August. Under the slogan 'Let your running do the Talking', the event is being promoted as Arusha's answer to a similar marathon held every February in Kilimanjaro. Organisers predict their event will become an annual feature on the running calendar and will attract a large amount of participants: this year they expect up to 2,000 runners, who will compete for cash prizes and trophies. In addition, there will be half-marathons, races for people with physical abilities and a 5 km family race. The half-marathons begin and end at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium, while the family race begins at Mwenge Roundabout Junction and ends at the stadium. more
Arusha International Cultural Diversity Festival

The Arusha International Cultural Diversity Festival is an annual event that seeks to foster an awareness and appreciation between artists from different cultural backgrounds through a mixture of paintings and performing arts. The programme comprises national and international theatre, visual art and music; it also encourages members of the public to participate in workshops and discussion forums. more
